RingCentral SMS/MMS Content Policies
As a participating TCR CSP, RingCentral is dedicated to providing the highest quality of service, while working to eliminate spam, phishing, and fraudulent messages. These policies align with CTIA guidelines and carrier codes of conduct. Consult your legal advisor for full compliance guidance.
Enhanced Business SMS
- Comply with RingCentral's Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy.
- Send no more than 50 messages per originating number per minute.
- Obtain written consent before sending marketing, promotional, or informational messages.
- Do not use purchased or third-party lead lists.
- Include clear opt-out instructions in messages.
- Avoid using link shorteners or non-branded domains.
- Complete TCR registration before sending messages.
- Consider High Volume SMS for greater capacity.
Automated Messaging
- Must be sent from numbers linked to a TCR "Automated" campaign.
- Require express and logged consent before sending.
- Promotional messages must have written, logged consent.
- Include opt-out language in every message (e.g., “Reply STOP to end”).
- Honor all opt-out requests.
Opt-in / User Consent
- Obtain express, specific consent before messaging.
- Implied or purchased consent is not valid.
- Use clear opt-in methods like web forms or SMS triggers.
- Use double opt-in to confirm user intent.
- Log all opt-in and opt-out activity.
- Be prepared to provide proof of opt-in to carriers if requested.
- Failure to obtain consent may result in suspension or blocking.
Opt-out
- Provide a clear opt-out method via SMS (e.g., STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE).
- Include opt-out instructions in informational and promotional messages.
- Manage opt-outs for long-code and toll-free SMS manually if not using High Volume SMS.
Prohibited Campaigns
The following use cases are prohibited:
- Loan, mortgage, credit repair, or debt relief offers
- Debt collection or tax relief
- Work-from-home or secret shopper ads
- Political messages
- Alcohol, tobacco, firearms, or pharmaceutical ads
- Affiliate marketing, indirect lending, gambling, cryptocurrency, etc.
Note: Exceptions are not available. Similar content may be blocked by RingCentral or carriers.
Prohibited Content
The following message content is banned:
- Illegal activity or TOS violations
- Pornographic or adult entertainment
- Violence, hate speech, threats, or abusive content
- References to federally controlled substances
- Third-party lead gen links or misleading URLs
- Attempts to circumvent policies via spelling tricks or evasion techniques
RingCentral may update this list or make enforcement decisions at its discretion.
Carrier Fees and Account Restrictions
Violations may result in:
- Reduced message deliverability
- Additional registration fees
- Account suspension or termination
- Carrier-imposed fines or penalties
